Where can we get a list of travelling vendors who carry Greenery Press pubs on the bdsm event circuit? Or does GP do their own road sales? We just left an event in the midwest that had everything *but* useful literature in their assortment of vendors - the absence was widely noted. And we have a small event of our own to help put on later this year; we really want to see these books offered.

Re: Vendors...?
Tue, April 25, 2006 - 7:52 AMI'd be happy to find a wholesaler. I carry Greenery Press books, but BookPeople (who used to be my wholesaler) went out of business a couple of years ago, and Alamo, (who had been my new wholesaler) went out of business last year.
No one at Greenery ever answers me about buying wholesale from them. (Actually, I gave up writing them a year or two ago) and I need a wholesaler who carries alternative books. (Greenery isn't the only Press who's books I carry. but they are the ones I sell the most of.)
I think a lot of traveling vendors may not carry books because they are HEAVY compared to a lot of other things. Imagine taking a hundred or so books on an airplane to get to an event, plus whatever else you sell. I know that books would probably be one of the things I would triage out of my stock if I were traveling out of town to a show. Then again, I mostly sell here in the bay area, and Greenery is at every event I attend. (smile) The last one, my niece was selling for Greenery, while I was across the room selling my stuff and some more of their books.

Re: Vendors...?
Tue, April 25, 2006 - 8:58 AMHi all --
Here's the situation. We have two distributors, a big one and a little one. The big one carries all of our titles, and sells to everyone -- Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders, independent bookstores and adult bookstores, and wholesalers. The little one carries most but not all of our titles, and sells exclusively into the adult industry, mostly small erotic boutiques and lingerie stores.
The big one is SCB Distributors at 800-729-6423. The small one is Entrenue at 800-368-7268.
SCB also sells us into several wholesalers, both mainstream and adult. If you have a preferred wholesaler, such as Last Gasp or Koen, most of them carry most of our titles.
As far as I can tell, the reason most vendors avoid books is because discounting is not as good in the book industry as it is in the sex-toy industry. The weight issue that Domina mentions is also a factor.

Tue, April 25, 2006 - 10:57 AMKoen is also apparently out of business.
I'm beginning to feel that if I try to do business with a company, they will go out of business.

Re: Vendors...?
Tue, April 25, 2006 - 12:00 PMYeah, and Bookazine too. The whole book distribution industry is pretty troubled these days -- some of you may remember that the demise of our last distributor almost put us under (and did kill a couple of our colleagues in the sex book business). You'd probably do best to deal directly with one of the two distributors I mentioned.
