A class about Pain and Catharsis

"Pain and Catharsis"
SF Citadel
1277 Mission Street
Tuesday June 3rd
Class from 8-10PM, Doors opening at 7:30

Would you like to take your masochism to the next
level? Do you wish to have less fear and more
catharsis in your scenes? This class focuses on
exploring and developing ways of channeling
energy/pain, as well as learning to experience
catharsis with authenticity. Each participant will
have the opportunity to try multiple methods for
processing "pain," as well as gain an understanding
of the advantages, disadvantages and potential uses of
these ways of processing sensation in their play. The
class is geared towards
masochists, but sadists and other orientations are
welcome to attend.

Mistress Lark graduated from Humboldt State University with
A Bachelors Degree in Sexual Arts, focusing on the
intersections of Tantra and BDSM. She is a Graduate
of the Journeyman III Academy of California with
advanced training in Leather history, traditions,
spirituality and practice. She has taught in both the
kink and non kink community for years and is happy
to be teaching at the SF Citadel.

Keri has been in the scene for over eight years and is
a cadet at the Journeyman III Academy, class of 2008.
Her column, "Kink in the City" can be read in the
monthly on-line magazine, kink-e-zine.com. Through
BDSM, she has discovered her own power and
strength. She identifies as a slave who is not a
beginner's model.

What Is Not About Sex?: a reading

What Is Not About Sex?

Reading by S/M Authors Sora Counts, Wendy Dalton, Dossie Easton, Bill Henkin, Liz Henry, and Carol Queen

Many authors in the leather community have become well known for their writings on SM and sex, but some have gifts that go beyond our mutually enjoyable kinks. As a community we frequently support wonderful readings of erotica by wonderful writers -- but don't you sometimes wonder what else they write?

In this evening's event, a half-dozen poets who have long-standing credentials in the radical sex community share their own poetry on nature, love, war, philosophy, spirituality, and other subjects. So what isn't about sex? Come find out.

Where can we get a list of travelling vendors who carry Greenery Press pubs on the bdsm event circuit? Or does GP do their own road sales? We just left an event in the midwest that had everything *but* useful literature in their assortment of vendors - the absence was widely noted. And we have a small event of our own to help put on later this year; we really want to see these books offered.

Radical Ecstasy - A Weekend Intensive with Dossie Easton and Janet Hardy

For millennia, seekers have used physical and emotional extremes to achieve transcendence and exaltation. Today, many BDSM and leather practitioners are discovering the potential of SM practice to reach personal, interpersonal and spiritual goals.

Perhaps you’ve touched the edges of transcendence during your play – you’ve had one or two experiences in which you’ve merged with your partner or with the whole universe, or lost your place in space and time, or left your body. Or perhaps you’re already a seasoned explorer in the realms of spirit, ritual, trance and ecstasy.

Either way, you’ll discover new pathways to bliss during this weekend of theory and practice with the authors of “Radical Ecstasy: SM Journeys to Transcendence,” the groundbreaking book exploring the interactions of leather, tantra and spirit.

From the basics of raising erotic energy through breath and movement, through more advanced exercises with clips and floggers, all the way to an end-of-weekend extravaganza of ecstasy, this will be a weekend you’ll never forget!

A few guidelines:
•	Please be prepared to show up promptly; the weekend proceeds in sequence, and if you miss steps at the beginning you’ll get less from the whole experience.
•	Attendees will be asked to participate fully. While there will be plenty of freedom to choose levels of intimacy and sensation that feel OK for you, everyone will be asked to at least try all the exercises. Some exercises will be solo, some with a chosen partner, some with a random partner and some as a group.
•	Please bring a mat, blanket or towel, a small firm pillow or folded blanket, and a blindfold. If you have a favorite mild-to-moderate flogger, please bring it as well.
•	If you have physical disabilities that will require accommodation, please let us know ahead of time so that we can ensure your comfort and participation.

Dossie Easton is a San Francisco therapist who has been an active sex radical since 1961. She is co-author with Janet Hardy of “The Bottoming Book,” “The Topping Book,” “When Someone You Love is Kinky,” “The Ethical Slut” and their most recent book, “Radical Ecstasy,” which explores and explicates the philosophy and energy that drives S/M. Long-time pagan, poet, feminist, mother, survivor of the politically correct era, leatherdyke, whipmaker femme slut, she has been following and teaching the path of Kundalini for decades. She focuses her spiritual practice and her SM practice on raising Eros and playing with fire in the bottomless pit.

Janet Hardy (aka Catherine A. Liszt and Lady Green) is the president of Greenery Press Inc. Under her various pen names, she is the author or co-author of ten books on sexuality, polyamory and BDSM, including "The Ethical Slut," "The New Bottoming Book," "Radical Ecstasy" and "The Compleat Spanker." Janet is a bisexual, polyamorous, gender-flexible SM switch who has shared her lifestyle knowledge at workshops and conferences internationally for more than 20 years. She was dragged kicking and screaming onto the path of spirituality but is now enjoying it tremendously.

Dates: Saturday, March 11, 10a-5p, and Sunday, March 12, 11a-6p. Lunch will be served on-premises both days.
Location: The Citadel, 1277 Mission Street, San Francisco.
Cost: $350 if payment is received before February 1, $375 thereafter.
Payments can be accepted by VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover or Paypal.
RSVP to Janet Hardy, jhardy@greenerypress.com, 510/530-1281.
If you’re traveling from out of town, the Rodeway Inn on Mission Street is next door to the Citadel and offers affordable, comfortable lodging.

Thanks for joining us here. I'm hoping to get a good number of the Greenery Press authors to join so that you can ask them questions and chat with them here. This will also be the place to let me know if there are books you'd like to see the press publish, or to bitch if the latest book isn't what you'd hoped it would be, or to review workshops that have featured our books or authors, or to cruise for people who have enjoyed the same books you have ;)

This should be fun!

21st Century Kinkycrafts

The single most frequent email message I receive is, "When are you going to reprint Kinkycrafts"?

I announced an updated editon, 21st Century Kinkycrafts, a year ago, and am finally getting close to finishing it. But there's still time to submit any ideas you might have. If you've made some sort of cool sex or SM toy that you'd like to share with the world, drop me a line -- all I need is a reasonably detailed description of how it's put together, plus a photo (professional quality not required -- I just need to be able to see it well enough to draw an illustration of it).

If I use your idea, you get a 50-word blurb to promote yourself, your business, your club, whatever, plus a free copy of the book when it comes out.

Drop me an email here or at jhardy@greenerypress.com.

Thanks,
Janet

Friday, May 13 - Free Artists Reception and Art Show

Art@Large is proud to present an exhibition of vintage and recent photographs and collages by legendary photographer Charles Gatewood. "Gatewood's world is freakish, earthy, blunt, erotic--most of all, terribly and beautifully alive." --A.D. Coleman, NY Times.

When Charles Gatewood began photographing America's sexual underground in the mid-1960s, he was considered by many to be an obsessed eccentric whose concerns were extremely marginal. Today however, as public nudity, blatant exhibitionism, full body tattooing and piercing, extreme fetish practices and various forms of sadomasochistic excess have entered mainstream culture, Gatewood's photographs appear not only artistically and historically significant, but also uncannily prophetic.

We are especially pleased to also present vintage gelatin silver prints from Gatewood's rarely seen 1972-76 "WALL STREET" essay, which was awarded two fellowships from NY State Arts Council plus the Leica Medal of Excellence. Vintage prints from Gatewood's first book SIDETRIPPING (1975, with William S. Burroughs) will also be available, as will a large selection of Gatewood's fine art photography books.

An opening reception for Mr. Gatewood will be held on Friday,
May 13, 2005, 6 - 9:00pm, at: Art @ Large, 630 Ninth Ave,
(btwn. 44/45th Sts.) #707, New York City. 212.957.8371.
The show continues for four weeks.
